Portsmouth High School Retaining Wall
Situation: Portsmouth High School was building a new facility and the new footer was being installed within 2 feet of an existing retaining wall that supported an elevated parking lot. The wall was compromised by water intrusion and poor soils. The first week on the project the temperature was 3 below zero with a wind chill factor of 15 below. As the temperatures rose, so did the swamp-like working conditions.
Solution: A local engineering firm working with the general contractor, Solid Rock Construction, specified helicals as a method of repair. We installed 76 2-7/8” helicals at an average of 70 feet per pier. Then whalers where installed to support the steel post of the retaining wall.
Conclusion: Ram Jack’s durable powder coated piers are perfect for installation in swamp-like conditions. Working together we were able to secure the wall and provide a safe working area for the builders.
